Equality Diversity Policy

An Employment Equality Policy is a Statement of Commitment to identifying actions to be taken to
prevent Discrimination and Promote Equality. An Employment Equality Policy is not an end in itself, but
a means to an end. It provides for a workplace culture of equality. It requires that changes in practices
and procedures be implemented if the potential of a policy is to be realized.
Preparing an equality policy makes good sense nowadays. The reasons for this are:
1. An employment Equality Policy can assist with compliance with legislation by providing a basis
for implementing practices and procedures that will eliminate discrimination in the workplace.
2. It is good business to promote Equal Opportunities in the workplace. This allows access to a
wider pool of labor and expertise as it sends out a sign that the Organization is open to Diversity.
3. Employment Equality Policies can generate positive responses from clients, suppliers, and sub-
contractors.
4. A more relaxed and positive workplace atmosphere and higher morale can follow from
adjustments made to take account of individual differences.
5. Equality in the workplace contributes to a more equal, fairer, and cohesive society.
Research has revealed that other outcomes from Equality Policies include:
Reducing misunderstanding and confusion about the organization’s policy and procedure.
1. Reduces the likelihood of Employer Liability.
2. Provides a more Harmonious Work Environment with greater productivity.
3. Increased retention of existing employees.
